Founding AI/ML Engineer (ORIS)
You will own ORIS, Rymeda's AI health intelligence layer that helps people understand, organize, and navigate their healthcare. This is one of the most consequential roles in the company: ORIS operates on the most sensitive information a person has, and it is held to a safety-first standard where trust matters more than appearing intelligent.
What you will own
- ORIS capabilities end to end: applied ML and LLM systems running on trusted infrastructure (today on Claude via AWS Bedrock, with a deliberately vendor-agnostic architecture so we can adopt the best technology without changing the experience or compromising privacy).
- Safety engineering: honest communication of uncertainty, deferral to clinicians when appropriate, and prioritizing user safety over confident-sounding answers.
- Keeping protected health information inside the privacy boundary at every step, and passing the mandatory Trust Review (clinical safety, privacy, security) before anything patient-facing ships.
You might be right if you
- Have built real ML or LLM-powered products, ideally where safety, accuracy, or trust were first-class concerns.
- Believe AI should augment people and clinicians, and never pretend to replace licensed professionals or remove human judgment.
- Take responsibility for how a system behaves in the world, not just whether it ships.
- Are energized by the hardest, most responsible version of applied AI, in a domain where it genuinely helps a real person in a hard moment.
Your first few months
Take ownership of a core ORIS capability, build the evaluation and safety guardrails around it, and partner closely with clinical judgment on what ORIS is and is not allowed to say and do.
The honest version of the deal
We are early and bootstrapped. At this stage we are not paying market salary. We offer meaningful equity and genuine co-ownership to the small number of people who build the foundation, and we plan to build the team first, then raise capital. Early decisions in a compounding infrastructure company have a long half-life, so early builders own a real part of what they build. You would join before the comfortable proof points exist. If that is a reason to join, we should talk. Full-time is welcome; for some roles, advisory or fractional to start is also welcome.
How you will grow
Every role runs on Rymeda's career architecture: three equal tracks (IC-Specialist, Builder, and Management), a numeric level that reflects demonstrated scope, and pay and influence that reach the top of the company without requiring a management title.
